Transport, Master, and House
Digitoll organizes data into three record types.

Transport | The vehicle that carries the goods: road, rail, air, or maritime. |
Master | A group of shipments that share the same origin and destination address. |
House | A single shipment. Norwegian Customs requires a declaration for each house. |
Linking rules
A transport links to one or more masters, or to one or more houses. A transport can't link to both at the same time.
A master links to one transport only.
A master is the only record type that can link to a transport and to one or more houses at the same time.
A house links to one transport or one master. A house can't link to both.
Linking two records doesn't copy field values between them. Enter the values independently on each record, even if the records are linked.
Internal and external links
An internal link connects to a record that you or another user created in Digitoll.
An external link connects to a record that exists in another system.
After Digitoll generates a Movement Reference Number (MRN) for a record, an Internal/External tab becomes available on that record. Use this tab to add further links, including external links.
To add an external link, enter the record's MRN and select Add MRN. Digitoll validates the MRN with Norwegian Customs.
Digitoll doesn't display details for an externally linked record.
Internal and external linking depend on the relationship type: for a one-to-one relationship (e.g., Master–Transport, House–Master), a record can be linked either internally or externally, but not both — an existing link must be removed before a link of the other type can be added; for a one-to-many relationship (e.g., Master–House), this restriction doesn't apply, since a Master can have multiple Houses, allowing links to be added both internally and externally for the same parent record.
Master Number and House Number identify which transport a master or house record is linked to. Digitoll includes this value in the transport message payload that it sends to Norwegian Customs.
If the link is internal, Digitoll populates the Master Number or House Number field automatically with the matching value.
If the link is external, enter the Master Number or House Number manually.
Movement Reference Number (MRN)
Norwegian Customs assigns a Movement Reference Number (MRN) to a record after Customs processes the record. Digitoll uses the MRN to connect related records across systems.
Record status
Every transport, master, and house record shows a status.
Status | Meaning |
Incomplete | The record is missing one or more mandatory fields. You can't send the record. |
Ready | The record contains all currently required fields. You can send the record. |
Sent | Digitoll sent the record to Norwegian Customs. The record is awaiting a response. |
Processed | Norwegian Customs accepted the record. Digitoll generates an MRN. |
Error | Norwegian Customs rejected the record. |
Delete | Digitoll marks the record as deleted. The user can delete the record after the MRN is generated. The system does not permanently delete the record. The deleted record remains visible in the Entry View of Transport. |
Note: A record can stay in Incomplete status even after you complete every field marked with an asterisk (*). Norwegian Customs sometimes requires additional fields that Digitoll doesn't yet mark as mandatory. If this happens, complete as many of the remaining fields as possible, then save the record again.
